Carrying the Presence

Just a thought.

When Moses led Israel out of Egypt and into the wilderness, the presence of the Lord was physically, tangibly with them, in the form of a pillar of fire, or a pillar of smoke (see Exodus 13:21, 22). Wow. Check out Exodus 14:24 for a demonstration of “shock and awe”. Incredible.

Anyway, when Joshua led the people OUT of the wilderness, and into Canaan, Israel ‘carried’ the presence of the Lord with them, embodied by the Ark of the Covenant.

Clearly the Lord was just as present as He was when represented as fire and smoke (for starters, see Joshua 3:9-17, and Joshua 6; awesome).

Here’s the point.

When the Spirit of the Lord dwells/abides/takes up residence in us, we carry the presence of the Lord around with us everywhere we go. The same God who was embodied in terrifying pillars of smoke and flames, who moved at Jericho and disintegrated thirty-foot thick stone walls, has somehow compressed Himself into a you-sized container.

Something to think about.
